Call Me Scrooge, But....

I might be considered a Scrooge after I make this confession - I don't like Christmas music when it's played all the ever-loving time. (Please to note the disclaimer).

I have a few favorite songs, and I don't mind listening to it when I'm at church, or opening gifts with family. However, every time I go in a retail establishment, it's playing overhead. It may be a marketing ploy but it does not put me in the holiday mood in early November. I know Christmas is coming, thank you for the reminder, but let's change the station, shall we?

My office mate has had her radio tuned to the all-Christmas station since before Thanksgiving. Ever day, 9 to 5, we've got it going on. It's annoying but she's nice, so I don't say anything. Or I stream Virgin UK radio on my PC. Nothing like British Top 40 to counter-act Barbra Striesand, swelling violins and jingly bells. Gah. Make it stop.

Flame me if you must for this anti-holiday sentiment, but be kind. And tell me your favorite holiday song while you're at it. Here is one of mine.

LOL...I know what you mean. I don't mind it so much now but by the 15 or the 16 of December...after the overkill...I'm ready to rip speakers out of the dang wall.

My favorite is Silet Night by the Temptations. It was my grandmothers fav and I cry everytime I hear it but I still love to play it.

Amen. That is all.

I'm with ya on how insanely early they all start playing it over their speakers.. I mean, can they at least wait until the day after Thanksgiving.. or December 1st! ;) Of course, most stores start rolling out their Christmas merchandise/decorations before Halloween is over, too.

My favorites have always been "Do You See What I See" and "The Little Drummer Boy"... also "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas"! :)

Mine is Grown up Christmas wish by Amy Grant! I with you on the music, do they really think we will shop more if they overload us with cheesy music.

I heard Santa Baby TWO TIMES while in two different stores last night....I feel your pain! However I have to say that my favorite song is Carol of the Bells (hark how the bells, sweet silver bells..etc...)only because in high school I was an alto and got to sing the back up line "Ding...dong....ding....dong" Cheesy, but fun :) Love ya,

My favorite is definitely Celebrate Me Home by Kenny Loggins. It always reminds me of those old Channel 5 Christmas commercials.

I hear ya!

My all time favorite is "Have yourself a Merry little Christmas."

I think one of the reasons I love it so much is you don't hear it as often as the other 50 or so they cycle through all the stores.

Oh I am right there with you! I can't stand it! I like the occasional song, but enough is enough, especially since the retail stores have been playing Christmas music since Halloween here! It is ridiculous! We were buying Halloween candy next door to the Christmas trees. It is one big marketing ploy after the other! Scrooges unite!
p.s. I do have a soft spot for any of the Nutcracker Suite music or Trans Siberian Orchestra, being a former dancer.

I also have a problem when there is Christmas music before Thanksgiving. That kind of freaks me out.

At my work, they have a promotional video going on endless loop, playing the Charlie Brown Christmas music ALL DAY LONG! By the end of the day I want to kill Santa.

I have two favorite songs-one I found this year, the other is old.

The old one is "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer"...your typical favorite Christmas song, no. But when I first heard it, I listened to it with my grandma. She stayed with us a lot. She loved that song, laughed every time she heard it. It reminds me of her--not that she was ran over by a reindeer but her laugh and enjoying herself and listening to that song.

The other one, believe it or not, I don't even know the name of it. It is on the "Now that's what I call Christmas" compilation that came out this year. It is sung by Amy Grant. The song is written through Mary's eyes. It is beautiful. In fact, I thought about you, Kim, when I heard it. I'll find my cd (I think Matt "borrowed" it) and I'll let you know the title.
