I Never Thought It Would Happen To Me...

but, here I am, at home on a sunny Tuesday afternoon, combing the web for job postings and updating my resume.

Yes, I am a victim of the economic downturn.

I told Maddy, and bless her heart, she burst into tears and asked if we were going to lose the house and live in a cardboard box. I hugged her and replied, "well, I haven't thrown out the steam cleaner box, so that could be your room." She pulled back and shot me a look, then she laughed a little.

I'll be honest, I'm scared. I had an interview with a placement agency on Monday, and I'm waiting to hear from her. I have a couple more applications to send out, and I've applied for unemployment. I'm being proactive, which is all I can do. Oh, and pray.

I know I'll survive and I know I'll find something. This isn't the worse thing I've lived through.

Just said a prayer for you and I am hoping for the best . I went through the same thing about 14 years ago. I had worked there for 16 years and they just laid several of us off. Hang in there,Kim. I will be praying for you

One thing you can be sure of is that you are in good company. Happened to me in January, still looking, but I'm taking it as a sign I was done there.

Best of luck

Things sound like they're really bad over there....

things will probably turn around soon, with a job better than the one you had! (At least you've got more time to plan the wedding and paint the house...)

My brother just lost his job with FedEx Freight after many years....it is so bad all over. So sorry to hear that you have been affected by it now. Will pray for you as well. Good luck to you.

That just sucks.
(Sorry for the language, but it does!)
Will be sending new job vibes your way!
My sister is on the cusp of losing her job, too - they're closing her 3-person office. Supposedly they want her to continue working for them from home, but we don't know how long that will realistically last...
I've got whatever can be crossed crossed - will add you to my prayers!

Oh, that is terrible! I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier; I've been really busy this week. If you're planning to submit your resume to some job websites, you should email me ASAP and I'll help you optimize it for the web so you can get more search hits.

Welcome to the club! So sorry to hear that. But the unemployment checks (as little as they may be) are actually a help. And don't settle for a new job. Keep looking until you find the right thing. Spend your free time cleaning, catching up on TV, and wedding planning. That's what I did! And I did find a new job in the meantime.

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry.
As always, it seems you've kept your quick wit and sensibilities about you.
Still scary!
Hope you find something soon.

Fuck. Sometimes that's the only word that will suffice. Fuckity Fuck. I'm sorry. But you know what? Karma OWES you. Owes you fucking HUGE. So I'm going to keep my rage at bay by hoping that there's something better out there ... like a professional shoe shopper position, or maybe an official patron taster ... that has your name on it. Hang in there :)

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that! Boy, I don't check all my blogs much for a couple of weeks and everything's upside down!

Makes me feel kind of rotten for griping about my long work hours.

We've had layoffs, too, and some long-time people were cut. It IS scary, but I'm sure that something will come up for you!

We'll keep your family in our prayers, too.

What? I am behind in the news apparently, because I just now saw this. That sucks big time Kim! I'm so sorry! I hope you find something soon. Good luck with the job searching and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Poor Maddy (living in the cardboard box). I'll be thinking about all you guys!!

Aw, Kim. That sucks. I hope that because I'm so late to this news that it's old news and you've got good leads in your corner and are well on your way to having another job. May it be one that fulfills and challenges you. If not, hey, it's a paycheck, right?

Thinking of you.
